It is never too late to learn
Welcome to the beginning!
Every blog has an angle. This blog was inspired by an essay I wrote to get into Harvard Business School – which not only surprisingly worked, but it is also my life passion.
“Didn’t you fly search and rescue helicopters for the Coast Guard for 10 years?” Yes. “Don’t you still work for the Coast Guard?” Yes. “Don’t you love to workout, run, and play tennis?” Yes. “Aren’t you and your wife both cat ladies?” 100%. But what motivates me more than any of that? Spreading experiences, tips, suggestions, and general knowledge about all things related to retirement investing and enjoying the journey of life along the way.
Financial Literacy:
These topics are generally NOT TAUGHT enough or at all in school like they should be, so we all need our CAPT Kelly Seals – he was one of my professors at the U.S Coast Guard Academy who stopped our electrical engineering acoustics elective course to go on a much appreciated rant about these topics. Little did he know his name would appear on this site more than 12 years later because of that 20 minute digression. You just never forget some things.
Enter the acronym I.R.A. (no, Irish Republican Army is not an intended use here…)
- Part Individual Retirement Account
- Part Investing (paying yourself) Relaxing (enjoying the journey of life) and Accruing (letting your money work for you so you can have what you want and create generational wealth)
I intend to blog about all three topics: investing, relaxing, and accruing. However, the bottom line is to:
- Create a fun and safe space to share investing knowledge.
- Motivate you to think about what passions truly yield happiness in your life.
- Help satisfy my passion for talking about all things investing.
Some content will be geared towards active duty military members since taking advantage of these opportunities is just too good to pass up.
End Game:
My ultimate goal, which was also a part of my essay, is to create a community that assists people with lower incomes to be able to maximize their IRA or Roth IRA contributions — year after year. Whether it is through organic means like this blog or an app along the lines of Status Money, I want to ensure investing information is widely disseminated and everyone who wants to set themselves up for the future little by little is able to accomplish that no matter what their salary happens to be. More on that later.
I hope you enjoy and share with friends and family who can benefit from this information.
Cheers!
